Pushing Boundaries: Exploring a Global Capacities Framework Through Unit Planning
In this hands-on workshop, teachers and curriculum leaders will be given opportunities to understand the literature and practice around 21st Century Global Capacities and why they are essential for teaching and learning in the 21st century; hear global case studies of how these capacities have been integrated into pedagogical approaches across grades and disciplines; work in collaboration with global education experts to apply this learning throughout the curriculum development process—either by refining existing units, lessons and assessments and/or creating new versions using a 21st Century Global Capacities Framework; and develop new networks of colleagues and professional learning communities dedicated to cultivating global capacities in themselves, their colleagues, and their students.
Developing K-12 Alignment: Strategic Approaches for a Common 21st Century Vision for Education
School and district leaders will hear and discuss global case studies on transformational change tied to the use of a research-based 21st Century Global Capacities Framework adapted and used by K12 school leaders in Singapore, Australia and the United States. We will examine international examples of theories of change tied to 21st century teaching and learning and what this looks like in practice across multiple dimensions, including professional learning communities; school culture; pedagogical approaches; student learning; and community support. Participants will have the opportunity to work with global education experts to workshop and share their own vision statements and theories of change tied to 21st century teaching and learning.
Envisioning Performance-Based Assessments for the 21st Century: Assessing Capacities vs. Content
School leaders, curriculum specialists, and classroom teachers will come to understand the research and practice behind performance-based assessments, and, especially, how formative, summative and cornerstone assessments can be designed and delivered to elicit deeper levels of 21st Century Global Capacities. Participants will have opportunities to see and hear how schools around the world are transforming assessments of, as and for learning that not only identify student content mastery but also concept mastery and real-world applications.
How to Make the Most of e-Portfolios and a Global Capacities Framework
In this hands-on workshop, curriculum leaders, ICT staff, and teachers will learn about the latest developments in education-based e-portfolios—why and how they are used, and to what effect. Participants will then have the opportunity to examine how a 21st Century Global Capacities Framework can be used to organize and activate e-portfolios to enable stronger K12 alignment across grades and disciplines as well as deeper levels of student learning.
