On May 1st & 2nd, 2015 at Teachers College, the Center for the Professional Development of Teachers will host Literacy Unbound: Exploring Text Across Multiple Modes, a hands on exploration of textual response practices.
Dr. Ruth Vinz, Director of CPET and Dr. Jeffrey Wilhelm will be our keynote speakers, and participants will experience two packed days or hands on workshops with classroom teachers, teacher educators, and teaching artists. Please consider submitting a proposal to present at the conference (see below for more details). We are interested in proposals that share ideas and approaches for integrating reading, writing and discussion with artistic experimentation through drama, music dance, film and/or visual art. The deadline for submissions is January 8, 2015. Ever wondered what would happen if you gathered thirteen teachers from four different countries and seven different states together with thirteen New York City high school students to read, write, and perform in creative collaboration? You'd have CPET's Performance at the Center - an educational experience that unsettles, challenges, creates, and plays within and beyond the spaces of meaning that are typically constructed in schooled-reading practices. Watch below for a look back at Performance at the Center's Summer 2014 institute, which remixed Mary Shelley's Frankenstein, and stay tuned for more information on our upcoming conference in Spring 2015! |
