Supporting K-5 learners
Teachers know, perhaps better than anyone, what challenges students are facing right now as they learn outside of their typical classroom environment, only able to engage virtually. You know the challenge of supporting anxious and overworked students who may now have additional responsibilities to manage at home, limiting the time they have to devote to their own learning. You also know that there are many students who, due to the existing inequities in our society, do not have access to the technology that is now a minimum requirement for learning in our new reality.
How can you support students as they learn, even if they cannot access your (virtual) classroom?
There is no perfect answer to this question, but we can recognize the opportunities available to us as we redefine what learning looks like.
Our Learning Through Living resources are designed to engage K-5 students who are learning at home. Included in each set listed below is a collection of activities that allow young learners to use their everyday environment to recognize the learning opportunities around them and improve their abilities in each subject. Using minimal materials, you can use these resources to encourage play, exploration, and creation as your students sharpen their skills. Through these resources, we hope to ignite curiosity and support students’ confidence in their abilities.
