What to Expect
From page to stageThe 2025 Literacy Unbound Summer Institute will culminate in an original piece of performance art inspired by this year's selected text: Klara and the Sun. This performance is your chance to see Literacy Unbound in action, and explore a captivating story full of political power and ambition, of guilt and corruption, of prophecy and the supernatural.
What will happen? We don't know — yet. This year's company of players will begin crafting the performance on July 7th, when our 11th annual institute commences. Over the course of four days, they'll hone their voices as performances and collaborate to generate an immersive, site-specific performance. |
Hear from the creatorsWorking alongside professional teaching artists, this year's cohort has stepped into Macbeth through improvisational movement, digital video, and the remixing of a shared text. Following the performance, we will have a talk back where audience members can speak with the performers about the creative process. We hope you'll join us!

Why Literacy Unbound?
Literacy Unbound blends arts-integrated remix, transmedia storytelling, and literary studies — offering teachers and students a powerful way to explore their creativity and curiosity while engaging in innovative, project-based approaches to literature.
Our institute’s unconventional structure gives learners of all ages a firsthand experience with the broader Literacy Unbound initiative, while also inviting them to consider how these practices might transfer to their own classrooms and communities.
Throughout the first weeks of July, this year’s players were invited to let their creativity shine — first independently, as they read and responded to Klara and the Sun, and then collaboratively, as they wove their artistic talents together to create an original performance. Alongside our facilitators and professional teaching artists, players explored all the ways stories can be unpacked, remixed, and reimagined.
