What does it mean to be a learner, both in and out of school? The pairing of poems and profiles in Reading Between the Lines reveals the rich diversity of each author's unique way of processing the world. This collection offers an enlightening and inspiring message to students, teachers, and other educational leaders committed to democratic learning in and out of the classroom.

We invite you to use this text as a resource to embrace diversity and foster understanding in your classroom. Written by students from New York City public schools, representing over 100 different languages and wide-ranging cultural backgrounds, the pages of this anthology provides a vivid glimpse into the immigrant experience. 

Reading Between the Lines offers truly authentic narratives, capturing the journeys of these young authors from all around the world to the United States. Through these compelling stories, your students can grow in their understanding of the challenges and triumphs faced by immigrants every day, cultivating empathy and global awareness.
