ABOUT THE BOOK
Chelsea Streetscapes, a collection of artist reflections from students at the New York City Lab School, brings together a page from each students’ sketchbook to create a multi-faceted picture of Manhattan's Chelsea neighborhood. As the students took to the streets, they were tasked with what their teacher described as “the imperative to find the particular.” Writing along with sketching became the avenue through which they considered, responded, and tried to make sense of what they discovered.

EXPLORING URBAN LANDSCAPES
Teachers and students can use Chelsea Streetscapes as a dynamic tool for exploring urban landscapes and personal expression. Each page in this collection offers a unique glimpse into Chelsea through the eyes of its young residents. By integrating sketching and writing, students not only document their observations, but also engage deeply with their surroundings. This publication serves as an inspiring example of how art and literacy can intertwine, encouraging students to reflect on and interpret their environment with creativity and insight.
