Morse Fellow for New Teachers
The Enid and Lester Morse Fellowship is a selective fellowship for doctoral students interested in the mentoring and professional development of new teachers. This financial award is offered through the Center for Professional Education of Teachers (CPET).

The Morse Fellow will work directly with Teachers College graduates who are members of the New Teacher Network (NTN@TC). The Fellow will gain practical experience in professional development by collaborating with NTN@TC coaches, mentoring new teachers, and assisting in the delivery of professional development programs. Along with a team of CPET coaches, curriculum developers, and instructional specialists, the Fellow will support the provision of services to new teachers in under-served schools.

Responsibilities include: 
  • Develop and facilitate a workshop series (3-6 sessions) for new teachers 
  • Offer formal and informal coaching sessions with NTN@TC members 
  • Participate in CPET conferences and community meetings
  • Conduct outreach to members & support with NTN@TC online platforms
  • Promote NTN@TC at TC events
  • Recruit new members for NTN@TC
  • Maintain membership documentation


The ideal candidate will:
  • Be participating in a Masters, EdM or Doctorate degree program at Teachers College, Columbia University 
  • Have a minimum of 3 years K-12 teaching experience
  • Have the capacity to commit 10 hours/week to this role
  • See professional development as a catalyst for teacher retention
  • Have a desire to participate in a dynamic professional community

Professional Development Fellow: Elementary Ed.
We are currently seeking Elementary Education-based Professional Development Fellows who have experience working with students and teachers in grades PreK-5 and are interested in gaining more on-the- job experience. As part of this role, Professional Development Fellows will visit CPET partner schools in the New York City area on a part-time basis throughout the 2020-21 school year.

Desired availability:
  • 1- 2 days per week (on average)
  • 30-70 days, during the week, in the 2020-21 school year

The right candidates will:
  • Be participating in a Masters, EdM or Doctorate degree program at Teachers College, Columbia University
  • Have classroom teaching experience with students or coaching teachers in grades PreK - 5 (Elementary)
  • Have familiarity with Common Core State Standards as they apply to curriculum and instruction for classroom teachers
  • Have an understanding of the state exams for grades 3-5, in ELA and Math
  • Have fluency in concepts of balanced literacy and how to incorporate models of differentiation into lesson planning and instruction
  • Have a working knowledge of how to use data in instruction

The ideal candidates will also have:
  • Teaching certificate in early childhood education
  • Classroom teaching experience in public schools in NYC
  • Familiarity with performance tasks and how they operate in a cycle of assessment
  • A passion for providing professional development services to teachers
