The New Teacher Network at Teachers College (NTN@TC) is a community of practice for Teachers College's newest teacher graduates. Since its establishment in 2014, it NTN@TC has delivered essential support to over 300 early-career teachers.
Teaching is a complex and difficult profession. From their first day on the job, new teachers are expected to take on the same responsibilities and perform at the same level as 10-year veterans. All too often, these expectations and responsibilities come without support. It comes as no surprise then, that one in four teachers leaves the classroom within their first five years on the job.
The New Teacher Network, an initiative of TC's Center for Professional Education of Teachers (CPET), is dedicated to ensuring that new teachers have all the support they need in order to meet rigorous expectations while they make the shift from student to teacher.
