From Our Directors
Since 2002, CPET has been a leader in providing customized professional development services to partners in New York City and beyond through our K-12 Professional Development initiative. Coaching services in all content areas, instructional and assessment strategies, and leadership have generated powerful, long-term partnerships. One of our signature professional development initiatives is the New Teacher Network at Teachers College (NTN@TC). This project enables TC graduates to join a network of other alumni for professional support. This network, free to TC alumni, provides workshops and individual coaching support for TC graduates as they enter their first years of teaching.
Our focus on project-based learning as a powerful tool for student engagement, rigorous instruction, and increasing student achievement is manifested in the Student Press Initiative and Literacy Unbound. These two initiatives harness the power of projects and support teachers through the process of publishing student writing in print and online publications, as well as performances written, designed, and performed by students and teachers.
At CPET, we believe that education provides a pathway toward equality and personal freedom, which is why our Youth, Inc. projects customize literacy professional development for schools and organizations working with students in the system. Leveraging professional development opportunities in schools that struggle to meet performance expectations, and schools that are working with students in the justice system, is one way that CPET works to bring the knowledge and expertise of Teachers College to those who need it most.
Our efforts to support teachers and schools leaders in their own context should not be isolated to each individual project. We believe that through global partnerships and a focus on research, collaboration, and innovation - we can pose new questions and contribute emerging understandings about how to educate students for tomorrow, today. This is why our partnership in the Global Learning Alliance is so central to our work.
None of this work would be possible without our amazing team, committed school and community partners, the support of Teachers College, and a small group of generous donors. Thank you all for your support and partnership.
