What You'll Learn
Take the lead in dismantling barriers to equity by applying the CRSE framework to create a school culture rooted in inclusion and student success.
Key takeaways
- Interpret the CRSE Framework and its principles to understand what they say, what they mean, and why they matter
- Identify meaningful entry points for implementing CRSE practices within your classroom, school, or system
- Address common challenges that arise when implementing CRSE principles, providing support for instructional staff
- Connect CRSE to other key frameworks to strengthen its integration into your current instructional practices
- Develop and articulate a student-centered implementation plan that brings CRSE values to life in your leadership and practice.
Defining cultural relevanceCreating culturally relevant environments is both exciting and challenging — it requires confronting long-standing beliefs and practices. Culturally responsive and sustaining education frameworks — such as the NYSED CRSE Framework — have emerged to guide teachers and leaders in building inclusive, student-centered classrooms. This work is not just timely, but essential for fostering equity and belonging in our schools.

Decoding essential principlesWhile many frameworks highlight what needs to be done, the true value comes from gaining clarity on how to put those principles into practice. When you have a clear understanding of core CRSE principles, you are better equipped to foster connection across lines of difference, elevate historically marginalized voices, and confidently navigate the complexities of student-centered teaching. This kind of clarity leads to more purposeful, inclusive, and impactful instruction.
