Session Title: Voicing the Poetic: From Mississippi Blues Form to ELL to Artistic Aesthetics

Description: Educators, particularly those who work with multilingual students, can invite students to create their own poetry to give voice to personal experiences and identify literary elements that may help them succeed on more formalized assessments (CCCC, 1974). This session will outline a poetry unit that engaged secondary English language learners in identifying, deploying, and reflecting on meaningful poetic expression.

Session Title: Student, Teacher, and Student-Teacher Relationships: The City and the Rural, the Real and the Simulated

Description: Invitations including student teacher/supervisor experiences, digital modalities, video, and simulated students provide unique professional development insights and opportunities for educational players including teachers and student teachers.

Session Title: Remix Share: Valuing Voice in Multiple Modalities

Description: Cultivating student voice and agency requires time and space. This workshop will introduce participants to the “Remix Share,” an ongoing classroom ritual designed to invite and encourage students’ multimodal creation. Participants will engage in their own imaginative remixes, entering into critical dialogue with Joseph Conrad’s Heart of Darkness.
